This is what Ripple is trying to do with the help of XRP, XRP Ledger and Interledger Protocol.
How does a payment using Ripple's technology and XRP work? Simple:
XRP's value lies not exclusively in its price, but mostly in its utility, fundamental value and use cases. And we know that XRP is the master of use cases that can be used in many different markets and industries. XRP is penetrating cross-border payments, micropayments, trade finance, music industry and recently the gaming industry. And there are many more to come.
In the first quarter of 2019 we saw many exchanges listing new XRP pairs and especially XRP/fiat pairs that pave the way to bigger liquidity and new xRapid corridors that will probably be announced soon as mentioned by Asheesh Birla. We already know the huge benefits that xRapid provides:
We saw Coinbase listing XRP and promoting it for international transfers. Mercury FX saying "We’re sending tens of thousands of dollars weekly through xRapid" and Brad Garlinghouse revealing that Q1 2019 was a record Q1 for Ripple as they signed about 3 production contracts per week.
But, we also saw more walled gardens like JPM Coin and other announcements about bank stablecoins. This is perfect news because XRP is poised to be the global bridge currency which will connect all the walled gardens and all blockchains, private and public, giving them value and making them interoperable.

Road to Internet of Value
Internet of Value is being rapidly built step by step, but don't forget that we are in a marathon, not a sprint. There is still a long way to go. XRP though, is the ace up everyone's sleeve. Not only Ripple's, but any company's and individual's. XRP completes the idea of the Internet of Value. XRP Ecosystem is rapidly maturing and we can't but be proud and happy of all the work that we do as an XRP Community.
In the end, this is what unites us. The vision of moving value as easy and fast as snapping our fingers.
